JAMES CITY COUNTY — The Williamsburg Area Bicyclists, in partnership with BikeWalk Williamsburg, James City County Parks & Recreation, Jamestown Settlement, and several local bicycle shops, will once again offer the free “Bikes Out of Hibernation” event later this month.
This year, the event will be held on Saturday, April 20 in the Jamestown Settlement Parking lot from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Williamsburg Area Bicyclists club president and event chairman David Hand said, “Bikes out of Hibernation is a great opportunity for individuals and families to have minor adjustments on the bikes and then ride the Virginia Capital Trail or Pedal the Parkway afterward.”
Attendees can bring any neglected bicycle out of hibernation for a free once-over to get it ready for the cycling season. Representatives from Trek, Conte’s, Pedego Electric Bikes, Williamsburg Area Bicyclists, and BikeWalk Williamsburg will be on hand, offering free safety inspections and minor adjustments, tire pumping, helmets and helmet fittings and refreshments.
“It’s great to see all the smiling faces on the event participants as they get their bikes ready to enjoy the wonderful cycling our community has to offer,” said Hand.
As part of Pedal the Parkway, the National Park Service (NPS) at the Colonial National
Historical Park and BikeWalk Williamsburg invites the public to walk, bike or jog the Jamestown Island loop car-free during this period.
April 20 is a nationwide admission-free day for all national parks.
Indoor restrooms will be available at the Jamestown Island Visitors Center and at Jamestown Settlement Museum. Free parking is available at Jamestown Settlement, 2110 Jamestown Road and at the NPS Visitor Center on Jamestown Island.
