JAMES CITY COUNTY — A single-vehicle crash shut down Interstate 64 Tuesday afternoon in James City County and left the driver seriously injured.
According to Virginia State Police, at approximately 12:01 p.m., troopers responded to a single-vehicle commercial motor vehicle crash on Interstate 64 eastbound at the 233-mile marker in James City County.
State police said a preliminary investigation has revealed that the commercial motor vehicle had a tire blowout which resulted in the driver losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle then ran off the roadway into the median, rolling over several times.
The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News.
The roadway was shut down for several hours to remove the vehicle and for hazmat to clean up of the exposed diesel fuel. All lanes were open as of 4:39 p.m., police said.
