Tony Mata Trio to Lead Jazz Jam at Three Jolly Coachmen’s Coffee House Concert

(Three Jolly Coachmen’s Coffee House)

WILLIAMSBURG — The Three Jolly Coachmen’s Coffee House will hold a jazz jam on Friday, March 15, featuring The Tony Mata Trio.

In something new for the series, the concert not only features what it calls one of Tidewater’s premier jazz combos headlining the session, but the jam will also feature soloists who are invited to sit in with the group.

Jazz guitarist Mata and his trio have been performing for 15 years in the Tidewater area, as well as New York City. Mata regularly conducts jazz jams throughout the Tidewater region.

According to organizers, Mata “is known for his thoughtful interpretations of the jazz standards that span the giants of bebop to the classics from the Great American Songbook, which contains the most important and influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century.”

A portion of ticket sales and 100% of all drink donations will benefit the Williamsburg chapter of Faith in Action, a servant, donor-based community that provides volunteer-based support services for seniors so they are able to age independently in their own homes.

The concert will be held at Lewis Hall, Bruton Parish Episcopal Church’s fellowship hall, located just behind the Bruton Parish Gift Shop.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. For additional information, to reserve seats, or to be added to the list of soloists who would like to jam with the Tony Mata Trio the evening of the performance, send an inquiry to TJCCoffeeHouse@gmail.com.
