Collin Hines Named MVP of Coast-To-Coast Tournament … Jahn Hines and Toa Hollenbeck Also Honored

NEWPORT NEWS — The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference has named Christopher Newport University’s Collin Hines the MVP of the league’s tournament, won by the Captains Saturday night in Fredericksburg.

Hines is joined on the All-Tournament team by his brother, All-American Jahn Hines, and Toa Hollenbeck. The Captains defeated the host school, the University of Mary Washington, in the title game, 62-56, Saturday night to capture their eighth straight trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Collin Hines, a sophomore product of Norview High School in Norfolk, scored a career-high 20 points and also pulled down nine rebounds in the title game against the Eagles.He also contributed seven points and six boards on Friday in a CNU semifinal victory over UC Santa Cruz. His stats also included four steals, two assists, and a blocked shot in the tournament as the Captains won their third straight C2C title.

Jahn Hines, the Coast-To-Coast Player of the Year, posted 18 points and five rebounds in the Championship game following a double-double effort on Friday that consisted of 13 points and 12 rebounds vs. the Banana Slugs. The senior, also from Norview High School in Norfolk, added three assists and three steals in the CNU victories. Hines is 13th on CNU’s all-time scoring list, and is now 33 points behind Mike Cherry for 12th on the scoring chart.

Hollenbeck, a freshman from Grassfield High School in Chesapeake, tallied 26 points and eight rebounds in the tournament. The Freshman of the Year in the C2C also registered three steals, a block, and an assist for the Captains.

Christopher Newport is now 21-6 heading into NCAA play. The defending National Champions will learn on Monday afternoon who they’ll be playing next and where as the NCAA releases the 64-team bracket at 1 p.m.
