W&M Men’s Basketball Drops Road Game at Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – Trey Moss and Chase Lowe tallied 18 and 17 points, respectively, but William & Mary suffered a 69-58 setback at Delaware on Saturday evening.

Moss was 9-of-19 from the floor and led the Tribe (8-17, 3-9 CAA) with three assists. Lowe pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while making 7-of-12 from the field.

W&M finished the game shooting 39.3%, including 6-of-24 from 3. Delaware put four players in double figures including double-doubles from Jyare Davis (21 points and 10 rebounds) and Christian Ray (13 points and 15 rebounds). The Blue Hens (16-9, 8-4 CAA) shot 43.3%, but were limited to only 2-of-15 from 3-point range. UD hit 15-of-18 at the free throw line and held a 37-31 advantage on the glass. They pulled down 14 offensive rebounds turning it into 21 second chance points.

The Tribe hit five of its first seven shots from the floor and led 14-11 on Trey Moss driving lay-up five and a half minutes into the game.

Delaware answered with a 7-0 run that included a Cavan Reilly transition 3 put UD back on top. The margin grew to 18-14 on a Davis tip-in at the 11:41 mark.

After the Tribe tied things at 20 on a Gabe Dorsey 3-pointer, the Blue Hens scored eight in a row. A Gerald Grumgoole Jr. 3-pointer with 4:39 left in the first half gave UD a 28-20 lead.

The Tribe used an 8-0 run of their own to move back in front. Lowe scored four during the spurt, including a lay-up with just under a minute left to give W&M a 30-29 lead.

W&M trailed by one at the half, but took the lead, 35-33, just 1:16 into the second half on a Gabe Dorsey 3-pointer.

The Blue Hens used a 12-2, including the final seven points of the spurt from Davis, to take control. His old-fashion 3-point play with 12:33 left gave the home team a 48-40 lead.

The deficit reached double-digits for the first time on a pair of Drumgoole free throws at the 8:15 mark. W&M quickly answered with a Moss baseline dunk and a Lowe lay-up to close the gap to 54-48 just over a minute later.

The margin was just five, 61-56, with 1:37 left following a pair of Caleb Dorsey free throws. UD put the game away with an 8-0 run, including six-straight free throws.

Gabe Dorsey finished with 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting from 3-point range. Niels Lane added 16 points for the Blue Hens, while Drumgoole had 11.
