WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary dropped a CAA home game to Delaware, 81-53, on Thursday night inside Kaplan Arena.
Junior Gabe Dorsey paced the Tribe with 12 points, knocking down four 3-pointers, while sophomore Chase Lowe added 11 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Tai Hamilton led the Tribe on the glass with a career-high eight rebounds to go along with four points and a blocked shot.
Delaware (13-9, 5-4 CAA) shot nearly 60% for the game and placed all five starters in double figures.
Dorsey hit his first two triples of the game, giving the Tribe (8-14, 3-6 CAA) a 6-4 lead just two minutes into the game.
Delaware answered with an 11-0 run with five different players scoring to take the lead for good. Gerald Drumgoole Jr.’s jumper at the 14:22 mark extended the visitor’s advantage to 15-6.
The Tribe scored eight in a row to close within one, 17-16, on a tough finishing inside by Lowe midway through the opening 20 minutes.
An 8-0 Delaware run capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Drumgoole Jr. and Cavan Reilly gave the Blue Hens a 30-20 lead with 6:11 left.
UD scored nine of the final 11 in the opening half to lead by 15, 39-24, at the intermission. Delaware shot 60.7% in the first 20 minutes.
W&M tallied the first five points of the second half, drawing within 10 on an old-fashioned 3-point play by Caleb Dorsey less 1:30 into the frame.
The Blue Hens scored eight in a row, including five from Christian Ray, to extend the margin to 49-31 with 15:51 left.
The UD advantage was just 12, 54-42, following a Gabe Dorsey 3-pointer at the 11:12 mark. Delaware put the game away thanks to a 20-2 run. J’yare Davis scored nine of his 13 points during the run.
The Tribe finished the contest shooting 32.3% from the floor. Sophomore Miles Hicks added five points off the bench for the Green and Gold.
Ray led Delaware with 17 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Drumgoole Jr. and Reilly had 16 points apiece, while Niels Lane added 12.
