GREENSBORO, N.C. — Chase Lowe scored a career-high 25 points but William & Mary dropped a 76-69 decision at N.C. A&T on Saturday afternoon.
The Tribe (7-12, 2-4 CAA) controlled the glass, 43-34, including 15 offensive rebounds and hit on a season-high 27 free throws (on 38 attempts). The Aggies answered by shooting 57.1% in the second half and one of the league’s top scorers Landon Glasper had a game-high 27 points.
Lowe scored 16 of his 25 in the second half. He was 7-of-10 from the floor and 11-of-14 at the free throw line to go with seven rebounds. Sophomore Trey Moss added 17 points and eight rebounds.
Trailing 70-59 with 1:27 left, the Tribe battled its way back led by Lowe. The Weddington, N.C., native scored W&M’s final 10 points, pulling W&M within 73-69 on a free throw with 31.2 seconds remaining.
Uchenna Kellman-Nicholes hit 3-of-4 from the free throw line for N.C. A&T (6-13, 4-2 CAA) over the final 26 seconds to put the game away.
W&M finished the day shooting 35.1% from the floor and were an uncharacteristic 2-of-22 from 3. The Aggies shot 44.6% for the game and hit 21-of-32 at the free throw line.
A&T score the first eight points of the game, including 3-pointers from Camian Shell and Kellman-Nicholes.
After missing its first 10 shots from the floor, W&M found itself offensively behind a 12-0 run to flip a nine-point deficit to a 17-14 lead with 6:09 left in the opening half.
Defensively, W&M held N.C. A&T scoreless for nearly six minutes as part of the run. Caleb Dorsey knocked down a top of the key 3-pointer, before a Matteus Case steal led to a fastbreak Sean Houpt lay-up to put the Tribe in front. Lowe scored five points during the run, including the capper, to give the Tribe a 3-point cushion.
Glasper’s first points of the game on a 3-point play to tie it at 17 and his 3-pointer at 2:26 put the home team in front, 24-21. The deficit with 26-25 at the break following a pair of Moss free throws with three seconds left.
After a Gabe Dorsey turnaround jumper gave W&M the lead on the opening possession of the second half, N.C. A&T used a 9-2 run sparked by Jeremy Robinson and Glasper to move in front for good. The latter scored the final four points to give the home team a 35-29 lead at the 16:39 mark.
Nikolaos Chitikoudis (6) and Jalai McKie (7) combined for 13-straight Aggie points to push the margin to its largest 56-44 with 9:27 remaining.
