ICYMI: Ring in the New Year at a Virginia State Park with a First Day Hike

York River State Park (Virginia State Parks)

RICHMOND — The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is inviting residents to step into the new year with an outdoor adventure at any of its Virginia State Park locations, including York River State Park.

DCR notes First Day Hikes have become a tradition for many, offering an opportunity to “get some exercise, explore outdoors and connect with nature all while enjoying the park’s unique beauty this season.”

More than 1,000 hikes are available this year in state parks around the country. Activities for First Day Hikes vary, but they all aim to create a fun experience for the whole family, DCR said.

Parking is free at all Virginia State Park locations on Jan. 1, and visitors to each park will receive a First Day Hike sticker while supplies last.
