WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Regional Library’s (WRL) Board of Trustees announced Friday it has appointed Assistant Library Director Sandy Towers as Interim Library Director.
The appointment is effective as of Jan. 1, when Towers will take over for the departing Betsy Fowler, who retires at the end of December.
Towers has served for four years as Assistant Director and spent five years as the Youth Services Director at the library before assuming her current role. During her tenure, WRL said Towers played a pivotal role in the creation of the Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio and spearheaded multiple award-winning programs and services.
“With years of extensive experience within our library system, Sandy Towers possesses the vision, knowledge, and commitment essential for leading our award-winning library system during this transitional period,” said Nina Simone, WRL Board Vice Chair Acting as Chair. “The Board of Trustees are confident that under her capable guidance, the library will continue to thrive until a new director is named.”
The Board of Trustees said it is in the process of starting the search for a new director.
