W&M’s Kevin Jarrell Honored as CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week

RICHMOND — After helping the William & Mary football team earn an exciting 31-10 victory at Hampton on Saturday, senior linebacker Kevin Jarrell was selected as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week.

In addition to recording a team-high 10 tackles with a pair of forced fumbles, he posted a 40-yard pick-six late in the fourth quarter to help seal the road conference win. The highlight reel play came when he secured a pass that bounced off a Pirate wide receiver’s leg and then raced down the HU sideline. ESPN College Football selected it as this week’s No. 2 Top Play.

Jarrell’s effort helped the Tribe limit HU to just 10 points, as W&M held the Pirates scoreless in the second half.

The Charlottesville, Va., native currently leads the team with 70 tackles.

Jarrell’s productivity has helped W&M establish itself as one of the nation’s top-ranked defensive units this season, as it currently ranks eighth in scoring defense (17.7) and 11th in total defense (297.1).

W&M will conclude its regular-season slate when it hosts Richmond at Zable Stadium for the Capital Cup Game Presented by C&F Bank on Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets are on sale and available at TribeAthletics.com.
