No. 24 William & Mary Tribe Football Falls at No. 23 UAlbany, 24-8

ALBANY, N.Y. – The No. 24 William & Mary football team fell at No. 23 UAlbany, 24-8, on Saturday afternoon.
 
W&M (5-4, 3-3) outscored UAlbany (7-3, 5-1) in the second half but was unable to overcome a 17-0 deficit at the break.
 
Quarterback Darius Wilson scored the Tribe’s points with a 20-yard touchdown run, and subsequent 2-point conversion, late in the fourth quarter.
 
W&M had another red zone opportunity late in the third quarter but was stopped short on a fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line.
 
In addition to limiting UA to just one score in the second half, the Tribe’s defense held the Great Danes to just 157 total yards in the final 30 minutes.  
 
Tribe Standouts
Wilson completed 14-of-21 passes for 171 yards to go with his touchdown run.
 
Hollis Mathis posted a career-high five catches for 78 yards, while freshman Leonte Oulahi recorded two receptions for 48 yards.
 
Defensively, Kevin Jarrell totaled a team-high nine tackles, while John Pius and Christian Hamm both recorded sacks.
 
Malcolm Spencer also came up big with an interception in the end zone.  
 
Inside the Numbers
UAlbany outgained W&M, 348-216, which included a 143-45 advantage on the ground.
 
W&M held the Great Danes to just 4-of-11 on third down but converted just 4-of-13 and was 1-of-3 on fourth down.
 
The Great Danes were penalized eight times for 88 yards but totaled six sacks.  
 
The Opposition
Quarterback Reese Poffenbarger completed 12-of-22 passes for 205 yards with a touchdown, while Brevin Easton registered four receptions for 90 yards with a touchdown.
 
Griffin Woodell led UAlbany on the ground with 100 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown.
 
Defensively, Aamir Hall put points on the board with a 45-yard pick-6, while Dylan Kelly totaled a team-high 13 tackles. AJ Simon posted six tackles with 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
 
Notes
The all-time series is now even at 2-2 … The loss snapped a three-game regular-season winning streak versus ranked opponents … UAlbany remains undefeated at home this season … Pius moved into a tie for seventh on W&M’s single-season list for TFL (13).

W&M will return to action when it concludes its regular-season road slate at Hampton next Saturday at 1 p.m.
