JAMES CITY COUNTY — A suspect has been charged following a hit-and-run at the intersection of Pocahontas Trail and Greenmount Parkway in James City County Monday that left a pedestrian in critical condition.
According to the James City County Police Department, on Monday, Oct. 30, at approximately 5:25 p.m., it responded to a hit-and-run incident at the intersection of Pocahontas Trail and Greenmount Parkway. Eyewitnesses reported a pedestrian had been struck by a turning vehicle, which then fled the scene, police said.
The victim suffered serious injuries and was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center, where they are reported to be in stable condition, though the extent of their injuries is uncertain at this time, police said.
Police said the vehicle involved is believed to be a blue Nissan Altima, described as a newer model, which proceeded eastbound towards Newport News after the incident.
Through investigation, James City County Police identified and located the suspect involved, 22-year-old Mehki Teachey of Newport News. Following an interview with police, Teachey was formally charged with Hit and Run Involving Injury or Death.
Teachey was processed at the Virginia Regional Peninsula Jail and was subsequently released on an unsecured bond of $5,000.
The vehicle implicated in the incident, a blue 2022 Nissan Altima, has yet to be found.
The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
