WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg’s Two Rivers Country Club is hosting the 13th Annual Two Rivers Senior Invitational Oct. 22-24.

The 54-hole medal play event includes divisions for Seniors aged 50 to 64, Super Seniors aged 65-69 and Legends aged 70 and over.

According to a press release, “a full field of top senior amateur golfers will be competing on the Tom Fazio-designed course that winds through The Governor’s Land residential community and finishes along the banks of the James and Chickahominy rivers.”

This year’s event is invite-only and the field is limited to 72 contestants who were selected by the Two Rivers Senior Invitational Committee based on WAGR and VSGA rankings. The field includes top players from 10 states with an established handicap index of 6.0 or less.

“It’s an honor for our club and a testimony to the beauty and quality of our course that we have such an elite list of 75 players this year,” said Chris Warring, Two Rivers’ PGA Golf Professional. “Our course layout, spectacular course conditions, and the warm hospitality of the Two Rivers members and staff are the reasons this event has become so popular over the past 13 years.”

Notable Senior players this year include Steve Serrao from Richmond, who was the 2021 Champion and is currently ranked as the No. 4 player in the VSGA Senior rankings. Other notable players include Sherrill Britt from Southern Pines, N.C., who is the No. 4 ranked senior golfer in the Carolinas; Kent Erdahl, a Two Rivers Country Club member who was the 2018 champion in the Senior Division; and David Partridge, who is returning to defend his 2022 title in the Super Senior Division and is currently ranked the No. 1 Super Senior golfer in Virginia.

In the Legends Division, George Washburn was the champion in 2017 and 2019 and is seen as a favorite again this year. Mike McDonald, who was a long-time Two Rivers Country Club member before moving to Iowa, was the 2009 champion in the Senior Division, the 2018 champion in the Super Senior Division, and returns this weekend to try and win the Legends Division Championship.
