HISTORIC TRIANGLE — With the weather changing and autumn breezes filling the historic triangle, WYDaily has pulled together a list of local activities and events taking place through the end of the spooky season.
Pumpkin Patches and Farms
- College Run Farms, a ferry ride away in Surry, will open in October.
- Holly Fork Farm begins its season Sept. 16. (Open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.)
- Lofty Farm Dreams
- KelRae Farms
- Pumpkinville will pop up Sept. 16 in Toano. (Open from 9 a.m to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday)
- Sweet Haven Lavender is hosting Harvest Days and Nights with live music. Tickets are required.
Seasonal Activities
- Green Cauldron Apothecary has an amazing display, not to be missed. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday to Saturday.
- Every Monday, Sept. 25 through Oct. 30, Williamsburg Winery hosts “The Lingering Spirits of The Williamsburg Winery” presented by The Original Ghost Tours of Williamsburg. This is a two-hour ghost tour plus wine tasting experience. Tickets required.
- Fifth Annual Harvest Happening at the Fleas, Saturday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Pups and People Ghost Walk at Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 14-15.
- Boo Bash at the Beach takes place at Jamestown Beach on Oct. 14 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
- Halloween with Heroes. Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the James City County Law Enforcement Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Join Virginia Paranormal Investigations at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 at Tabb Library as they talk about the foundations of ghost hunting and ghost hunting equipment. This event is free and open to the public.
- York County is hosting “Movies in the Park.” The October movie selections are “Hocus Pocus” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.”
- York Gardens Tea Room is hosting Witches’ Brew Tea Costume Party on Saturday, Oct. 27. Space is limited and reservations are required.
- Yorktown Library presents, “Paranormal Poe: Poe and Victorian Spiritism” by Poe Museum Curator Chris Semtner on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. for an illuminating talk about Edgar Allan Poe’s interest in the paranormal and the Spiritualist movement. Registration is encouraged but not required to attend.
- Go Ape presents Haunted Trails and Frights at a Height is also returning. Guests will find zombies, ghosts, and ghouls hiding around dark corners of the Treetop Journey zipline and ropes course.
- Broadway Dance Arts presents Monster Bash on Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. The 60 minute variety show will have dancers, singers, magicians, and more, all themed to Halloween music favorites. Tickets are $25.
- The Costume Sale. Stock up on things for spirit days, formal events, and of course all the Halloween parties. Thursday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at William & Mary Sandler Center. All proceeds benefit FISH, Inc.
- James City County Parks and Rec is hosting Spooky Steps: Jack-o-Lantern Family Fitness Walk will be held on Friday, Oct. 20, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the JCC Recreation Center Trail. Dress up in your favorite Halloween attire and get ready to move your body! Advance registration is required.
- Family Frights at Jamestown Settlement returns Oct. 20 and 21 for the 10th year of scary good family fun. The outdoor areas transform into Halloween themes offering a night of trick-or-treating, creepy crafts, festive music, decorated houses and spooky ships. Tickets required.
- York Gardens Tea Room is hosting a Witche’s Brew Tea Party. Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. Games, family fun, costumes and prizes will accompany the tea. Reservations required, Tickets are $32.95.
Brewery Events
Several local breweries are hosting Halloween-specific events:
- Alewerks Taproom is hosting a Nighttime Witches Market, Oct. 21 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Vendors, tarot readings and live music are on tap.
- Alewerks L.A.B. will have a Boos and Brews Festive Market between noon and 5 p.m. on Oct. 29.
- Frothy Moon Brewhouse is hosting a Haunted Halloween Trivia and Costume Contest on Oct. 18.
- Strangeways Brewing Williamsburg Haunted Hops artisan market on Oct. 27 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. with food vendors, spooky artisans, and a fun costume party.
Local Ghost Tours
Tickets and reservations are required for all tours:
- Colonial Ghost offers ghost tours, ghost hunts and cemetery tours.
- Spooks and Legends offer ghost, witch and pirate tours along with the Dead of Night Tour.
- Yorktown Ghost Walks offer several tours and are run by the Virginia Paranormal Investigations.
- For something a bit different, try the Jamestown River Haunted Cruise or the Jamestown Murder Cruise.
Colonial Williamsburg Events
Haunted Williamsburg is the official ghost tour experience of Colonial Williamsburg. This one-hour candlelit walking tour is suitable for ages eight and older. Tickets are required.
