JAMES CITY COUNTY — Renovations to the James City County Recreation Center are scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 18.
According to the county, work includes upgrading the catering kitchen in the community wing, multiple door replacements, new flooring in the hallways of the community wing and upgrades to all three locker rooms. The renovations will be conducted in phases to help minimize closures to the different areas of the facility.
The family locker room will close first on Sept. 18 for approximately three weeks, the county said. Once that work is completed, the women’s and men’s locker rooms, including the saunas, will close one at a time with each using the family locker room during their closure.
James City County Parks and Recreation anticipates each of the larger locker rooms will take approximately five weeks to complete, cautioning that while a locker room will always be available during this time, it is important to note that space will be limited. Additional restrooms are available off the lobby and upstairs, and additional lockers are in the gym lobby.
“We understand that while these much-needed upgrades will enhance the health and wellness experience, they may cause some disruption to your routine. Regular operating hours will continue during the renovations — you can continue to use the available center amenities and tryout new fitness routines. You also have the options to either “freeze” your pass and return to the center once renovations are complete or to request a refund of the unused portion of your membership pass,” it said.
