NFL Returns for 104th Season, Players and Coaches from Historic Triangle Return to Gridiron

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — As the 2023 NFL season kicks off on Sept. 7, some familiar faces from the historic triangle will take to the field.

Players

Colby Sorsdal, offensive tackle for the Detroit Lions, was drafted in 2023. He played for William & Mary from 2018-2022.

Luke Rhodes, linebacker and long snapper for the Indianapolis Colts, will suit up for his seventh season in the NFL. Rhodes played for William & Mary from 2012-2016.

Andrew Trainer, offensive tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers, comes off his rookie season in the NFL. Trainer played for William & Mary in 2019 and 2021.

Bill Murray, defensive tackle for the Chicago Bears, will suit up on the practice squad for the 2023 season. Murray played for William & Mary from 2015-2019.

Returning to the field is not just for players, coaching staff from the area will also kick off their seasons.

Coaches

Sean McDermott, a William & Mary hall of famer, will begin his sixth year as head coach for the Buffalo Bills.

Mike Tomlin, a William & Mary hall of famer, will begin his 16th year as head coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dan Quinn, who coached part-time at William & Mary after graduating from college, returns for his second season as defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys.

Alan Williams, a former William & Mary running back, will begin his second season as defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears.

Joe Brady, a former William & Mary wide receiver, will begin his second season as quarterback coach for the Buffalo Bills.

David Corley Jr., a former William & Mary quarterback, will begin his second season as assistant quarterbacks coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mark Duffner, a former William & Mary tackle, will begin his fifth season as senior defensive assistant for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Robert Livingston, a former free safety at William & Mary, will begin his ninth season as the secondary coach for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kevin Rogers, a former William & Mary tackle and running backs coach, will begin his third season as the senior offensive assistant for the Cleveland Browns.

Week one matchups

On September 7, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football.

On September 10, 1:00 pm games include the Cincinnati Bengals vs the Cleveland Browns, the Houston Texans vs the Baltimore Ravens, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs the Minnesota Vikings, the Carolina Panthers vs the Atlanta Falcons, the Arizona Cardinals vs the Washington Commanders, the Jacksonville Jaguars vs the Indianapolis Colts, the San Francisco 49ers vs the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Tennessee Titans vs the New Orleans Saints.

4:00 pm games include the Las Vegas Raiders vs the Denver Broncos, the New England Patriots vs the Philadelphia Eagles, the Los Angeles Rams vs the Seattle Seahawks, the Miami Dolphins vs the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Green Bay Packers vs the Chicago Bears.

Sunday Night Football returns with the primetime 8:20 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants.

On September 11, the New York Jets play host to the Buffalo Bills at 8:15.
