JAMES CITY COUNTY — One person is dead Wednesday after a collision in a construction zone on Daydreamer Court in James City County.
According to the county, on Aug. 9 at approximately 11:20 a.m., James City County Police and Fire Departments responded to an incident in the 9200 block of Daydreamer Court, a construction zone in the Stonehouse Neighborhood.
Upon arrival, medical personnel pronounced one victim dead at the scene after accidentally colliding with a 1992 Ford L8000 truck owned and operated by Harris & Son Seeding Contractors. Both the victim and the truck’s driver were engaged in seeding operations in the construction zone at the time of the accident.
Police said preliminary findings of the initial crash investigation indicate that George “Sonny” Harris III, a 68-year-old male resident of Hampton and owner of Harris & Son, was assisting in guiding a hose behind the truck as it moved forward. Harris III became entangled with the vehicle, resulting in his death.
The circumstances surrounding the incident and the manner of his death are currently under investigation.
