JAMES CITY COUNTY — James City County Fire Department and James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire Friday night that extensively damaged a home in the Colonial Heritage community.
According to James City County, firefighters responded at 6:20 p.m. to the 4300 block of Sprucemont after homeowners called 911 reporting a fire in the garage. The homeowners had safely exited the home. Units arrived at 6:27 p.m. and found a significant fire in progress that had already extended into the roof of the structure.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 7 p.m., the county said, after causing extensive fire damage to the property, as well as smoke and water damage to adjacent properties.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
York County Department of Fire and Life Safety and the Williamsburg Fire Department assisted in the call.
