Ferris’ Day Off (A Pup’s Adventure in the Historic Triangle): Spoke & Art

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Part beagle, part foxhound and all attitude, Ferris Bueller (no, not THAT Bueller but, definitely named after the ’80s icon) is a one-year-old pup who loves to head out on adventures and explore new places and meet people.

On the corner of state Route 5 and Greensprings Road, there is a welcome site for bikers, walkers and those who pass by. Spoke & Art Provision Company welcomes all, including furry friends, to sit awhile, enjoy a beverage, grab a bite to eat, and possibly listen to some tunes.

“We love our huge deck and lawn as it gives us tons of space to welcome all the friendly dogs. We have so many regulars who come looking for their treat,” said Steve Rose, owner of Spoke & Art.

Spoke & Art has plenty of seating; indoors, patio, and outside under the trees. The day we stopped in, a local musician strummed tunes from the outdoor stage while we shared homemade sandwiches and a couple of cool local craft beers on one of the many outdoor picnic tables.

Colorful artwork is available for purchase and the shop showcases several pieces, including some outside. There is a funky and colorful bottle installation where guests are invited to take and share photos. Ferris lost his tennis ball in there a few times.

The Virginia Capitol Trail runs right by Spoke & Art, and while we visited, Ferris enjoyed watching people reveling in the beautiful Spring weather.

Spoke & Art provides bike rentals, a bike fix-it station, and even a doggy water station!

This little hidden Williamsburg gem was the perfect spot to meet new friends, hang out with old ones and savor a truly pet-friendly environment.

Happen to spot Ferris out on an adventure? Come say hello! If you have a dog-friendly suggestion you would like Ferris to consider visiting, please email his mom. Hounds are not very good at responding.
