HISTORIC TRIANGLE — “Ten Questions with” is a series that allows readers to get to know local business leaders, volunteers and community members in the Historic Triangle.
This week, meet Becky Mosbrucker from Forward Safety Training, LLC.
What is your job title and description?
Owner of Forward Safety Training — I teach women how to protect themselves and their families by using mindset training, physical self-defense and situational awareness. I also teach firearms safety.
Who do you interact/work with on a regular basis?
Mostly women — all ages and abilities. Some men, as well.
What is something about your job most people wouldn’t know about?
I won a firearms competition last year against some state troopers, Army Rangers and FBI agents — GO ME!! No one expected that one of the oldest people at the class would win against people of this caliber.
How do you define success?
To me success is when one of my students “GETS IT” and uses the knowledge I instill in them to help their families.
What is your most successful accomplishment to date?
Ha! See question number three! AND becoming a published author of three books, one women’s magazine and several TV interviews.
What piece of advice would you give your younger self?
JUST DO IT! I’ve waited … years to get my business off the ground because I thought I didn’t have the skills. I proved myself wrong many times over!
How long have you lived in the greater Williamsburg/York area?
35 years.
What is your favorite part of living here?
The people — I haven’t met an unfriendly person yet. Everyone in this area seems to want me here and it shows. Plus, I can get to the mountains in two hours and the beach in one hour.
What do you do for downtime/to relax?
Water ski, hike, camp — anything outside — I love the sunshine!
What is the next step in your journey?
- I will start my podcast soon.
- Taking more Instructor level classes for self-defense.
- Taking CPR Instructor class so I can teach/certify folks.
- Writing my elementary and middle school age safety books.
- Training more students to become self-aware and self-reliant.
