JAMES CITY COUNTY — Two James City County residents were arrested and charged Thursday following a shootout on Howard Drive that resulted in multiple vehicles and dwellings being struck by gunfire.
According to James City County Police, officers responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Howard Drive at approximately 8:35 a.m. where Orlando McCoin Sr., 49, and Orlando McCoin Jr., 27, were involved in the shootout following a domestic dispute.
Officers arrived, secured the scene, and detained the father, police said. The son fled the area and turned himself in to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail at approximately 2 p.m. Both firearms used in the shooting were recovered.
According to police, Orlando McCoin Sr. has been charged with attempted murder, reckless handling of a firearm, and firing at an unoccupied dwelling. Orlando McCoin Jr. has been charged with attempted murder, reckless firearm handling, and firing at an occupied dwelling.
No injuries were reported. A nearby school and daycare were placed on lockdown for approximately one hour as a safety precaution, police said.
