Williamsburg Bicyclist Dies After Collision with Vehicle in York County

YORK COUNTY — A bicyclist died Thursday afternoon after he lost control and was struck by a vehicle on East Rochambeau Drive near Airport Road in York County Thursday afternoon.

Virginia State Police received the call at approximately 3:24 p.m. State police said 76-year-old Michael Everett Gleason, of the 100 block of Marshall Way, Williamsburg, was riding a bicycle on the shoulder of eastbound Rochambeau Drive when he lost control and drifted into the path of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado.
Gleason was taken to Sentara Williamsburg where he succumbed from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Silverado, 23-year-old Lorenzo Antonio Rivera-Flores, was uninjured. State police said neither alcohol nor speed were contributing factors in the crash.
East Rochambeau was temporarily shut down for the crash investigation.
