W&M Football Standouts Bessant, Fowler Selected to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

IRVING, Texas — After excelling both on the field and in the classroom, William & Mary football standouts Zyquan Bessant and Carl Fowler have been selected to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) 2023 Hampshire Honor Society.

The group of honorees is comprised of standout college football players from all divisions who completed their final year of eligibility and maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.

In addition to serving as captains for multiple seasons, both players were starters on W&M’s defensive line for much of their standout careers and helped propel the Tribe to a record-breaking season in 2022.

The only three-time team captain in school history, Fowler earned all-conference honors as a senior and was a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy. In addition to earning 40 starts, Fowler finished his career with 117 tackles, 8.0 sacks, 19.5 TFL, nine pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. He earned his undergraduate degree in public policy before pursuing a  law degree.

An FCS ADA Academic All-Star selection as a senior, Bessant earned 22 career starts and totaled 76 tackles with 4.0 sacks and 5.0 TFL during his career in Williamsburg. He also garnered CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll accolades every year en route to earning his undergraduate degree in accounting and pursuing a master’s degree in accounting.
