WILLIAMSBURG — The Junior Woman’s Club of Williamsburg (JWCW) will hold its 58th annual Art on the Square on Sunday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Williamsburg.
Art on the Square will feature over 80 artists and a variety of local vendors offering works ranging from pottery and paintings to jewelry and ceramics.
JWCW said it is thrilled to welcome featured artist Gulay Berryman who created an original oil painting for Art on the Square that will be raffled off at the event. Attendees can purchase raffle tickets at the JWCW tent for the opportunity to win, and it will also sell commemorative poster prints of the original painting at its tent.
Proceeds from artist booth fees, as well as raffle ticket and poster sales, are donated to visual and performing arts organizations throughout the greater Williamsburg area, including JWCW’s Richard DePaul Memorial Scholarship for Visual and Performing Arts.
“This year’s Art on the Square is special as we introduce featured artist, Gulay Berryman, while also remembering our past artist through the Richard DePaul Memorial Scholarship,” said Ali Blankinship, president of JWCW. “DePaul was our featured artist for more than 20 years. Thanks to him and his wife Janet, we’ve been able to award more than $3,000 in scholarships annually to local high school seniors continuing their education at the college level in the arts in pursuit of an arts-related career. Berryman, a family friend of DePaul, is honored to be carrying on his legacy.”
Gulay Berryman received her art training at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Versailles in France, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan, and the Ecole du Louvre, Paris. She has exhibited her work in many countries across the world, been commissioned to paint portraits by a Royal Family, won the American Embassy Paris Art Show twice, been invited to the prestigious biennial in Florence, Italy, and been accepted into several art associations. She owned and operated the Williamsburg Art Gallery from 2015-18.
Nora Bartlett of Walls Alive will be offering special framing pricing for posters, and a portion of frame sales will be donated to JWCW from customers who visit the store and mention the club.
Art on the Square is free and open to the public. For more information about the show and 2023 Art on the Square artists, visit the JWCW website.
