HAMPTON, Va. – Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) will inaugurate Dr. Towuanna Porter Brannon, its ninth president, on March 24 during a ceremony at Hampton’s Liberty Live Church. The processional begins at 1:15, with the ceremony at 1:30.
Named president in October 2020 after a national search, Brannon officially assumed the role Jan. 1, 2021, and in the past two years guided the College through many pandemic-related challenges, including returning students to in-person instruction.
Brannon also worked with internal stakeholders and the community as the College changed
its name from Thomas Nelson Community College to Virginia Peninsula. This two-year period also included the College reversing an eight-year enrollment decline, the addition of new men’s and women’s sports, and the opening of VPCC’s new Trades Center in Toano this February.
While the ninth person to lead the 56-year-old college, Brannon is the first president of
Virginia Peninsula Community College.
On March 25, the day after the inauguration, there is a gala at the Newport News Marriot
at City Center to raise money for the College’s Educational Foundation.
