NEWPORT NEWS — A vehicle drove into the Peninsula Health District building located at 416 J. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Newport News Thursday afternoon.
According to a Facebook post by Hampton & Peninsula Health Districts, the incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m.
The driver and a health department employee inside the building were injured and taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries, according to the statement.
“We are wishing the best and a speedy recovery for those that were injured. We are monitoring the situation. The health department recognizes this is a traumatic event for our employees and are working with employee assistance,” Hampton & Peninsula Health Districts said.
The Peninsula Health District will remain closed on Friday pending further inspection of the building. There is no estimated damage currently.
