YORK COUNTY — Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating an accident that killed a bicyclist Monday morning on Old Williamsburg Road near Church Road.
VSP said it responded to the accident at 11:42 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, where a bicycle traveling west on the far right side of Old Williamsburg Road, close to a quarter-mile east of Church Road, was struck from behind by a 2009 Kia Sorento.
The rider of the bicycle, Alvester D. Fields, 63, of Yorktown, died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.
The driver of the Kia, Jennifer W. Pendleton, 42, of Gloucester, was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt. Pendleton was charged with reckless driving.
The accident remains under investigation.
