HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Area students continue to excel at colleges and universities across the country.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Inducts New Members

The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

  • Catherine Thompson of Williamsburg at Sacred Heart University
  • Rebekah Almond of Yorktown at Old Dominion University
  • Megan Sapp of Seaford at The University of Tampa
  • Alyssa Talayumptewa of Yorktown at University of Lynchburg
  • Fletcher Whalen of Toano at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University

There are approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Hope Nicholson named to Ohio University’s Fall 2023 Dean’s List

Ohio University College of Health Sciences and Professions student Hope Nicholson of Williamsburg has been named to the Fall 2023 Dean’s List.

The Dean’s List recognizes undergraduate students who complete a particular semester with a GPA between 3.5 and 3.999 with a minimum of 12 credit hours attempted for letter grades that are used to calculate GPA.

In fall semester 2023, approximately 6,000 Ohio University undergraduate students qualified for the Dean’s List.
