WILLIAMSBURG — After several delays, the doors at Voodoo Brewing Co. will open to the public Aug. 30.
Brewpub franchise Voodoo Brewing Co. is known for its beer, food options, craft cocktails and hard seltzers. The location in Williamsburg will be the second to open in the state.
Michael Davis, a former transportation company owner, is leading the expansion into Williamsburg.
“It has always been a dream of mine to open my own pub. I can’t wait to bring this eccentric pub experience to the students and residents in the area. I want to become a community staple for people to come and connect over a great drink,” Davis said.
The location at Midtown Row will feature a custom Williamsburg-themed logo, menu items tailored to local tastes, community events and beer.
“A lot of franchises that you get into, everything is cookie-cutter. Voodoo actually gave me a lot of freedom to put my own twist on things. It’s really like a 50/50 marriage between me and Voodoo — 50% is their idea, 50% was my idea,” Davis said.
Davis has literally put his blood, sweat and tears into building out the space.
“I built all the tables that are in this space. All the metal in front of the bar were all brand new galvanized roof panels that I bought, stuck in my backyard, and put acid on them to rust them out for the space. There’s a lot of pipework that I built in the space. There’s a lot of family fingerprints all over everything in here,” Davis said.
Davis’ wife, daughter, and daughter-in-law have also contributed to the art and visual creation of the space.
According to Davis, Voodoo Brewing offers something for every palate.
“A lot of breweries are just beer, and there’s a lot of people out there that don’t like beer. We have this model of the craft side of everything. Not only do I offer craft beer and guest tap other local breweries, but I can offer craft cocktails. If people don’t want that, I have wine or hard seltzers,” Davis explained.
The space will also have a full kitchen that will boast locally-inspired fare.
“We will be doing pizzas, wings, hamburgers, appetizers with a twist. Think of it as elevated pub fare. Once I get the chef in here and go over their skills, we’ll start talking about the local flair. We’ll take half a dozen items that is locally known and locally loved and we will add that to our menu. We’ll have our core Voodoo menu, but also incorporate our local flair side of it at the same time,” Davis said.
Once the location is fully operational, Davis will also offer local music and trivia and karaoke nights.
Doors will open on Aug. 30 at noon for a day full of celebration. All ages are welcome to attend the grand opening. The business is also currently hiring for all positions.
