WILLIAMSBURG — The electric vehicle (EV) charging station in New Town has received an upgrade.

In 2015, New Town received James City County’s first-ever public EV charging station. At the time, Larry Salzman, a representative of the New Town Commercial Association, said, “This is New Town. A new urban community. Having the first EV charger here in New Town is perfect for us.”

In the over seven years since the first charger arrived at New Town, technology has improved with an increase in demand for such stations.

“New Town has strived to be aware of innovative ideas that can benefit our community, and New Town has actively implemented changes that were needed,” said Salzman of this upgrade. “A new car charging station is another step in this progression.”

The new charger, which is made by Blink, a company founded with a mission to slow climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions caused by transportation, promises faster charging output and an “effortless” user experience.

Consumers can find the new charging station at 4935 Courthouse Street in the parking lot next to Axe Republic.

It is New Town’s hope that it will be able to install even more EV chargers in the future.
