Scott Taylor is the man for the job. Just ask Vice President Pence

VIRGINIA BEACH — Vice President Mike Pence stumped for Rep. Scott Taylor during a campaign rally at Regent University here on Wednesday.

Taylor opened his speech with same anecdote from Tuesday’s debate with his Democratic opponent for Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, Elaine Luria, which touched on his first time in the Capitol as a newly elected congressman.

The 2nd district includes Accomack and Northampton counties, portions of York County, and the cities of Virginia Beach and Williamsburg and parts of the cities of Norfolk and Hampton.

Taylor, selling his military service to an enthusiastic crowd, said “we don’t just want to win, we want to crush it.”

Taylor, a former Navy SEAL, introduced Pence, who entered the theater to a standing ovation.

Pence gave a rousing endorsement of Taylor, pointing to the economy, President Donald Trump’s numerous appointments to the federal bench, 4.2 million new jobs since Trump’s election, and increases in military spending as some of the reasons why the Republican Party “needs Scott Taylor reelected, and we need your help.”

“And trust me,” Pence said, “We don’t want a Democratic House, because that means Nancy Pelosi would be the next speaker. I was in the House last time she was in power. You do not want that again.”

When speaking about border security, Pence inspired the crowd to repeatedly chant “build that wall” in unison when touched on the migrant caravan of more than 7,000 Central American migrants heading to the United States.

Gold star families were in the theater, who were acknowledged by both Pence and Taylor, and who received a standing ovation.

Former Vice President Joe Biden also stumped in Hampton Roads recently. Biden visited Newport News Shipyard Friday and endorsed Luria.
