VIRGINIA BEACH — The American Music Festival’s main stage performances scheduled for Friday night at the Oceanfront have been canceled due to rain and wind in the forecast, organizers said hours before doors were set to open.

Musical acts 311, Big Something and Jesse Chong were slated to perform on the 5th Street stage.

311 was scheduled to play the festival last year but that performance was also canceled because of Hurricane Hermine.

In March, Beach Events Director Mike Hilton said he was excited for the band to return to Virginia Beach for what he described as a “special performance.”

TFC Band’s performance on the 17th Street stage has also been canceled.

Organizers said free performances by Lucky 757 and The Double Shots on the 24th Street Stage and a free performance by Vertical Horizon on the 31st Street stage are still on.

Doors for both free shows open at 6:30 p..m. and they are all weather permitting.

Decisions about the Saturday and Sunday performances have not yet been made.

Show status, refund procedures and information about the festival will be posted online at www.beachstreetusa.com and at www.facebook.com/americanmusicfestival and www.facebook.com/beachstreetusa.
