The landscape of Williamsburg just got a little more colorful with the unveiling of an outdoor mural on the side of an office building on Ironbound Road.
The building belongs to CultureFix, a new nonprofit aimed at promoting creativity and culture in the greater Williamsburg area.
The nonprofit, created earlier this year by Winter Blues Jazz Fest founders Steve Rose and Jennifer Raines, recently set up its headquarters at 4403 Ironbound Road above Williamsburg Event Rentals.
The mural, “A Walk in the Park,” was conceived, designed and painted by 17-year-old Nick Rose. Rose recently graduated from Lafayette High School and plans to attend the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan in the fall.
Rose put the finishing touches on the mural last Tuesday, followed by a public unveiling. The mural covers a large area, measuring 696 square feet, and utilizes abstract shapes and bold colors.
CultureFix provided light refreshments for the unveiling, which also featured live music by local jazz act Good Shot Judy.
“Nick said his primary goal was to create something fun and different,” Raines said. “Our mural unveiling event was a huge success and everyone absolutely loved it.”
