Music is back in Merchants Square this summer with the return of the Summer Breeze concert series.

The series, which is celebrating its 25th year, will feature jazz, rock, jam, rhythm-and-blues and pop acts — plus several performances by military bands — throughout the months of July and August.

The United States Air Force Band will kick off the series in a special, pre-Independence Day show on July 3. Performances will continue to take place Wednesdays through August 31.

Longtime fans of the series can expect to see familiar names among this year’s line-up, such as the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Band and the United States Air Force (USAF) Rhythm in Blue jazz ensemble.

Newcomers like Norfolk rock-and-soul sextet Major and the Monbacks will join the fan favorites to round out the line-up, according to a recent press release from Colonial Williamsburg.

Local jam band Blind & Dirty will put on a special performance on July 27, which will be followed by a separately-ticketed screening of “The Grateful Dead Movie” at the Kimball Theatre.

“We are so excited to welcome a new and diverse cast of bands and entertainment offerings this year for Summer Breeze,” said Robert Currie, Director of Entertainment at Colonial Williamsburg. “This iconic event is a perennial favorite and a perfect opportunity for our local community to gather and enjoy a wide variety of talented performances in the cultural center of Williamsburg: Merchants Square.”

Summer Breeze concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy take-out dining from one of Merchants Square’s restaurants, according to the press release.

All shows begin at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Click here to view the full schedule.
