Yorktown Market Days is kicking off its 10th season Saturday at the Yorktown waterfront.
The market, which takes place at Riverwalk Landing between Buckner and Ballard Streets, will operate weekly Saturdays through Oct. 29, excluding Oct. 1.
Following the close of the weekly market season, monthly markets will be held on Oct. 8, Nov. 12 and 19, and Dec. 10.
Each week’s market will feature seasonal fruits and vegetables, fresh seafood, eggs, poultry, fresh breads and mixes, baked goods, peanuts, cut flowers, herbs, vegetable plants, fresh mozzarella, potted plants, coffee, jellies and jams, art and live musical entertainment.
For the opening market, York County Parks, Recreation and Tourism will host the sixth annual Health and Fitness Market, a program to support improving the quality of life for residents by educating citizens about the importance of healthy living and highlighting tools available to make healthy lifestyle choices.
The Fitness Market will feature detailed information on Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s summer programs, which include summer youth sports and special interest camps, the Summer Fun playground program, the Safety Town program for rising kindergarten students, Special Recreation Camp for children with special needs, youth and adult instructional and fitness classes, and summer activities at the Senior Center of York.
Information also will be available about county parks and boat landings, as well as special events and concerts taking place in Yorktown.
The market’s special fitness section will include demonstrations, information booths, exercise classes and health screenings, such as blood pressure and body composition, as well as free giveaways – all tying in with the farmers market.
Interactive demonstrations and classes will cover everything from Tae Kwon Do to line dancing to Zumba, giving market patrons the opportunity to browse a wide range of fitness-oriented offerings from local businesses, gyms and studios.
All markets throughout the season are free and open to the public. Click here for more information about Saturday’s market and the vendor lineup for future markets.
