Walsingham Parent Board Raises $110,000 for New Activity Buses

Walsingham Academy’s recent “Auction and Dinner for the Children” brought in $110,000 for the school, making it the most successful fundraiser in the academy’s history.

The fundraiser, in its 45th year, is hosted by Walsingham Academy’s Parent Board and has become the school’s signature fundraising event. This year’s auction and dinner took place Feb. 20 at the Williamsburg Hellenic Center

Chaired by member Jane Swartzwelder with support from president Megan Provoncha and vice president Annette Vidlak, the board spent months planning this year’s gala.

Guests enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a seated dinner in addition to both a live and silent auction, according to a recent news release from the school.

“Countless Parent Board volunteer hours coupled with an outpouring of generosity from the greater Williamsburg community were a recipe for success. This year’s event boasted a full house and broke our event fundraising record by over $16,000,” said Walsingham’s Event Coordinator Courtny Moulton.

The money raised will help pay for two new student activity buses this spring.

“As the needs of our school continue to grow, we are constantly striving to expand our student offerings and strengthen the experience of our students,” said Walsingham Academy President Sister Mary Jeanne Oesterle. “On average, every class takes two academic field trips each school year, and with an Academy wide increase in extracurricular club activities and community service opportunities, we’ve identified the need for two new activity school buses.”

The record-breaking fundraiser comes on the heels of a record-breaking donation of $500,000 to the school from the uncle of a current 4th-grade student.

“On behalf of Walsingham’s students, we’d like to thank the Parent Board volunteers, event sponsors, attendees, and the greater community for supporting this annual event for the students and making it the Academy’s most successful auction to date,” Oesterle said. “We were able to order two new buses – a 21 passenger and 14 passenger – to support the growing needs of our students. The new buses will be on campus and in use by April.”
