The Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance rolled out the red carpet to honor some of its most accomplished community partners at its annual gala last month.

The gala, which took place on Feb. 27 at Kingsmill Resort, was an opportunity for the chamber to celebrate the past year’s successes with a night of awards, dinner, dancing and music provided by SNACKBAR JONES.

Yankee Candle Village took home one of the first awards of the night- the Corporate Citizen Award, which recognized their “demonstrated spirit of community involvement, established record of giving back to the community, leadership within the business arena and a commitment to the future growth of the destination,” according to a recent press release.

The Hall Of Fame Award was given to WMBG AM 740 “for their 46 years of support for the Alliance and as a community staple in Williamsburg for a host of civic organizations supporting multiple causes,” the release said.

The College of William & Mary and the university’s president W. Taylor Reveley, III, were awarded the Outstanding Partnership Award for their continued successful partnership with the Alliance on bringing exceptional events to the community.

The Outstanding Non-Profit of the Year was given to Heritage Humane Society for “having achieved increased awareness, innovative fund-raising, and creative, new events helping it to advance its mission and goals,” according to the release. The shelter’s executive director Kimberly Laska accepted the award on behalf of the shelter.

Robin Carson received the Executive Leader of the Year award for her work as Volunteer in Chief for the Harvest Celebration. In that capacity, Carson worked on sponsorship, restaurant participation, volunteer recruitment, event operations and the overall strategic organization for the festival, which debuted last year.

Finally, the Alliance awarded two Military Citizen of the Year Awards – one to a member of the Navy and one to a member of the Coast Guard. The Navy Military Citizen of the Year Award went to HM2 Petty Officer Andrew Jenke and the Coast Guard Military Citizen of the Year Award went to Boatswain’s Mate First Class, Raymond Figueroa, Jr.
