Whitley’s Peanut Factory and the Boy Scouts of the Stonewall Jackson area council recently partnered up to bring peanuts to soldiers stationed at Fort Eustis.
The project began when the two groups came together three years ago to create a peanut-selling fundraiser for Boy Scout troops based in and around the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and West Virginia.
In addition to selling peanuts, this year the Boy Scouts requested a donation be made in the form of peanuts to be distributed to members of the military and their families.
“We have worked with the Stonewall Jackson Area Council for over 3 years and it is nice to see them expand this fundraiser to support the military,” said Roger Sams, Whitley’s Peanut Factory vice president of sales.
The initiative garnered more than $4,000 in donations, which purchased more than 200 pounds of peanuts from Whitley’s Peanut Factory to give to the United Service Organization at Fort Eustis.
“Some may think ‘it’s just a peanut,’ but it’s more than that,” a recent news release from Whitley’s Peanut Factory reads. “It’s energy for a young military family who is starting out. It’s the smile on the veterans’ faces when they have more than just a choice of eating bananas or apples. It’s motivation for a young Boy Scout selling peanuts to be able to make a donation to the military while his father serves our country.”
