The Yorktown Woman’s Club recently donated a selection of books about the Pamunkey Indian tribe to the York County Public Library in honor of a recently deceased member with a passion for local Native American culture and history.
Page Archer, who was involved not only with the Woman’s Club but also the Grafton Kiwanis Club and other local civic organizations, passed away last fall.
Archer was also a member of the Virginia Council on Indians, which inspired her fellow Woman’s Club members to honor her memory through a donation of books on the Pamunkey Indians.
“Mrs. Archer was a beloved member of the Yorktown community and a devoted library patron,” said Kevin Smith, Library Director. “She was a valuable resource with her extensive knowledge of local Native American culture and history; she will definitely be missed.”
