Update: Proximo Marketing Strategies has announced the six nonprofits that will receive its services for free for one day.
Williamsburg Area Learning Tree (WALT), Communities in Schools of Hampton Roads, Peninsula Reads, Ignite Fine Arts, United Way of Greater Williamsburg and Youth Sailing Virginia Inc. will all receive marketing work from the James City County-based firm as part of CreateAthon.
Proximo Marketing is also partnering with Designs By Me, a Newport News business, to help with the work being provided to the six nonprofits.
The organizations were selected from the 17 applications that asked for more than 30 projects from Proximo, which began participating in CreateAthon last year.
The 24-hour marketing marathon, which aims to help organizations that have little or no marketing budget, begins Monday.

Proximo Marketing Strategies LLC recently announced it will once again be participating in CreateAthon, a national 24-hour marketing marathon to benefit nonprofits.
CreatAthon was launch in 1998 by South Carolina-based marketing consultancy Riggs Partners.
In 2002, the organization expanded CreateAthon into a national network which currently includes more than 70 agencies from the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada.
This year will mark Proximo’s third year of participation in CreateAthon. From now until Oct. 6, the organization will be accepting applications from Hampton Roads area nonprofits who wish to be considered as potential beneficiaries of the 24-hour pro-bono marketing blitz.
Once the application period closes, Proximo will vet the applications and select a short list of organizations to move on to the next round, which will include a telephone conversation. The final selection will take place by Oct. 12.
From 9 a.m. Oct. 19 until 9 a.m. Oct. 20, Proximo will work nonstop and at no charge on marketing strategies, proposals and initiatives for the small number of area nonprofits chosen.
Past organizations that Proximo has selected for CreateAthon include NATASHA House, First Night Williamsburg, the Women’s Club of Williamsburg, the Williamsburg Farmers Market and Proclaiming Grace Outreach.
