James City County Parks and Recreation is putting on its annual Harvest Festival on Sept. 19 at Chickahominy Riverfront Park.
The festival, which replaced the county fair in 2009, usually draws between 2,000 and 2,500 attendees each year.
This year’s event will feature carnival games such as ring-toss and corn hole in addition to arts and crafts, inflatables, a petting zoo, scarecrow-stuffing, pony rides and hay rides.
There will also be live entertainment throughout the day, including a musical performance by the L.C.V. Project and a juggling show.
Vendors will be on site selling merchandise or promoting local organizations. Popular eateries such as Sticks and Sno-2-Go will also be selling tasty treats for festival-goers to enjoy.
A small number of volunteers are still needed before, during and after to ensure the festival goes off without a hitch.
Individuals as well as clubs and organizations are encouraged to sign up to perform a number of different jobs, including assisting with scarecrow stuffing, overseeing carnival games, arts and crafts, and driving the hay wagon for the hay ride.
The early shift starts at 10 a.m. to facilitate setup and lasts until 2 p.m. The later shift starts at 1 p.m. and concludes at 5 p.m., one hour after the festival ends. Those interested in volunteering should contact Angie Sims at angie.sims@jamescitycountyva.gov or 757-259-5403.
The Harvest Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19. Admission is $5 a car and certain activities require an additional charge. This event is rain or shine.
