Williamsburg Fire Chief Pat Dent, who is also the vice president of the Virginia Fire Chiefs Association, is responsible for pushing for this year’s fundraiser to be held in Williamsburg for the first time.
In addition to individual players, the Virginia Fire Chiefs Foundation Golf Tournament is currently looking for family, corporate and governmental sponsors for the tournament at a variety of different levels.
Title Sponsorship, which includes full registration for four players, is available for $1,500. Less expensive sponsorships, including golf cart sponsor, driving range sponsor and hole sponsor, are available at different price points ranging from $125 to $1,000.
Sponsors will be recognized with posted signage on the course in addition to recognition during the awards ceremony dinner that is immediately to follow the day of golf.
Eric Stone, the city fire department’s public information officer, said the Golden Horseshoe was selected as the hosting course due to its proximity to the city and its reputation as a high quality course.
“It’s a course that a lot of people want to play, so it makes sense for the fundraiser,” Stone said.
The money from the tournament will go towards VFCF’s scholarship fund, which provides educational opportunities to firefighters, emergency service providers and their families. This includes additional training in their field as well as higher education opportunities.
In addition to providing scholarships, the money raised will also go toward the development of public relationships programs and awareness campaigns.
There will be a variety of prizes up for grabs, many of which have been donated by local businesses and organizations. In addition to prizes for the first-, second- and third-place teams, there will also be giveaways for the longest drive, the closest to the pin and getting a hole-in-one.
“It’s important that we make sure firefighters throughout the Commonwealth have access to education opportunities,” Stone said. “That’s why we’re hoping we can get large turnout for this great cause.”
The tournament will take place on the Green Course at the Golden Horseshoe on Sept. 25. Sign up to play in the tournament, become a sponsor or make a donation, contact Stone at 757-564-7884 or click here. Sponsors should register by Sept. 21 if they would like to get their name on the sponsorship sign.
