The Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s popular “Symphony Under the Stars” fall outdoor concert series is returning for four concerts the week leading up to Labor Day.
“Symphony Under the Stars” is an annual event that acts as a prelude to the VSO’s upcoming concert season.
Benjamin Rous, the orchestra’s resident conductor, will be conducting this year’s family-friendly program, which will include well-known selections from Beethoven, Bartok and Tchaikovsky.
The series is kicking off Sept. 1 at the 31st Street Stage in Virginia Beach. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., but guests are encouraged to arrive early and grab a space for their blanket or lawn chairs.
The show comes to the Historic Triangle on Sept. 3, when VSO will be performing at Lake Matoaka Amphitheatre in Williamsburg.
The City of Williamsburg, William and Mary and the W&M Student Assembly are joining together to sponsor this concert, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. Personal coolers, picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs are all welcome, but no external alcohol will be permitted.
The Celebrate Yorktown Committee will present the Sept. 5 show at Riverwalk Landing, which will include a pre-concert performance by the Fifes and Drums of Yorktown before the main event at 7:30 p.m. Additionally, there will be a “just for fun” most creative picnic set-up contest at 6 p.m.
The final show will take place at Chesapeake City Park in Chesapeake at 7 p.m. Sept. 6.
