Sally Smith Rutherford, 85, died Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Spring Arbor of Williamsburg.

Ms. Sally is a 1950 graduate of Matthew Whaley High School. She is of the original Bucktrout family owners of Bucktrout Funeral Home, which began in Colonial Williamsburg 1759.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Rutherford Sr.; parents, Hamlet Smith Brewster and Gladys Deacon Brewster; brother, Hamlet Brewster Smith Jr.; and great-aunt, Emma Bucktrout.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Bowling, and her husband, Gary; two sons, Andrew Rutherford Jr., and his wife, Gwen, and John Rutherford, and his wife, Julie; eight grandchildren, Christina, Heather, John Jr., Logan, Sally, Emily, Kate and Bonnie; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Harris and Donna Byrd; and brother, Charlie Smith.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 10, at Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family received friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg.
