Kimberly Sypniewski and Joshua Nicholson, 31, are to be married May 27, 2017, at Michigan Stadium ‘The Big House,’ in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Kimberly Sypniewski, 27, is a veterinary technician at Colonial Veterinary Clinic. She graduated from Green Run High School in 2007 and Virginia Wesleyan College in 2010. She is a daughter of David and Carol Sypniewski.

Joshua Nicholson, 31, retired from the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Decatur High School in 2003 and attended Thomas Nelson Community College. He is a son of Bonita Nicholson.

After six years together, Joshua finally asked the one question Kimberly had been dying to hear. It occurred at their own home in front of many of their friends and family.

To celebrate Joshua’s 31st birthday, Kimberly had put together a surprise party for him. It was supposed to be a complete secret, only known to their friends, his softball team and his disc-golf buddies. He was kept out of the house all day so she could prepare, and when he arrived he seemed thrilled, but distracted.

As is tradition with all of their household parties, Joshua stood up to give a speech of thanks to all his guests, but called Kimberly up to join him. It was there that he turned to her and said, “I found out about the party.” She was furious, and looked around the room demanding to know who spilled the beans. But when she turned back to him, he had dropped to one knee and revealed the perfect ring in a hand-painted wooden box. Behind her, the friend who had secretly devised the plan with him started to play their song. She was stunned, shocked, and speechless.

When she finally said “yes,” the birthday party turned to a celebration of engagement, complete with a champagne shower and plenty of hugs and tears. One friend even caught the whole thing on video. It was perfect!
