Famous Flock to National Scout JamboreeBy Taylor Huber Friday, July 30, 2010
Scouts Carter Saha and Nathan Lewis enjoy the opening Arena Show on July 28.
Five miles of marching brings the Scouts of Williamsburg’s Troop 1741 to the huge arena on Wednesday. Every person at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree sits patiently waiting to hear the speeches from Robert Gates, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, and other celebrities like Caressa Cameron who is the 2010 Miss America and Sergeant Slaughter from World Wrestling Entertainment. Suddenly, from 9,000 feet in the air, the Golden Knights file out of a customized plane and parachute to their landing mark. Along with that the Army’s Herald Trumpets perform. The ceremony ends with the Herald Trumpets playing “America the Beautiful” while Caressa Cameron sings it. Just like the secretary of defense, Miss America and Sgt. Slaughter, many other celebrities have come to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Boy Scouts. Hometown reports
Local Scout Taylor Huber has filed reports from the National Scout Jamboree. Click below to read that day's account. A few other authors are coming as well as two famous snowboarders, both Olympic medalists. Along with them, politicians and athletes are coming. Another Arena Show on Saturday is planned to have many well-known names. The Army National Guard said Scouts striving for Eagle prepare themselves to succeed in the armed service. The Jamboree shows have been amazing and there are still many more planned. |
