Early A.M. Ferry Commuters May See Wed. Delays

The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced it will reduce Jamestown-Scotland Ferry service tomorrow morning, Wednesday, beginning at 6.

The Williamsburg, which can carry about 25 vehicles, will be taken out of service for an annual fire suppression system inspection. Both the Pocahontas and the Virginia will be in full service. While the Williamsburg is not the largest vessel in the fleet, the reduced capacity per hour of about 25 vehicles is expected to cause some delays in making the crossing.

Motorists during the morning rush may want to consider the I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel or the following alternate route:

From Route 5 West take the Judith Stewart Dresser Memorial Bridge (James City/Charles City) to Route 106/156 South; Go over the Benjamin Harrison Bridge to Route 10 East to Surry.

Motorists are encouraged to visit the VDOT Web site, listen to Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) 610AM, or dial the ferry information line, 1-800-VA-FERRY for current travel information.
