Partying at the Pocket

Partying at the PocketBy the looks of Williamsburg's New Town last night, one would have to surmise that it was the Irish, not the English who built a permanent settlement in the New World.

At the Corner Pocket, the color green in every shade and connected to nearly every imaginable body part adorned a merry crowd of foot tapping generated by the Irish band Poisoned Dwarf.
“They started flowing through the door around three o’clock and never stopped,” said Lynn Allison, owner of the Corner Pocket.“The rain and cold seem to have put everyone in an even more Irish mood.”
“This is my first St. Patrick’s Day in Williamsburg,” said Dee Murphy, a 15 year resident of the community.“I used to go back to my home town of Philadelphia, but this is a great celebration.”The “Pocket” served a selection of Irish food favorites including, of course, corned beef and cabbage. More creative mixtures of global dishes introduced nachos with Guinness Cheese sauce and a Paddy Melt cheeseburger.Allison says she covers the pool tables with a table cloth to set up more room for dining for special events like these. She is hoping to bring the ever popular Richmond band Carbon Leaf to the Corner Pocket sometime in April.
