The Dish: Steve Touchstone, CheeBurger CheeBurger

The Dish asks a different restaurateur each week for their three favorite menu items at another restaurant. Two of them have to be local. All of them are bound to be good. This week's Disher: Steven Touchstone, owner of CheeBurger CheeBurger in New Town. To visit their website, click here.

Steve got his start in restaurants like many - he was a dishwasher, then moved up to busboy, then cook, server and bartender. After college and working in the restaurant business for a bit Steve worked in medical sales, where he really honed his people skills. He'd wanted to get back into the restaurant business as an owner, and the opportunity opened for the CB-CB franchise about two years ago. While burgers are the top dog at his stop, Steve also likes to get out and sample his other favorites - after 18 holes in the morning (pssst - he's shooting mid-70s these days, which on days when Titleist after Titleist goes missing makes us not like you so much, Steve, though we still like you a lot!) and a great afternoon with his kids.

Steve has loved the 'Peanut Soupe' at the King's Arms Tavern in CW for a long time. "It's been a favorite of mine since I was 14 years old and my parents first took us to CW," he says. Over the years he's returned to King's Arms Tavern with the parents, on school trips with the kids, with friends - there's always time for a cup or bowl of that Virginia classic. Steve also enjoys the atmosphere. "I really enjoy sitting in the old home, as if I were a guest," Steve says, and he really enjoys the old-fashioned service.

It's just around the corner from CB-CB, which is great because Center Street Grill is a casual change of pace from his shop. Steve loves the ribs, served with the grill's famous sweet cornbread. "The ribs have a gentle, smoked flavor, fall off the bone, and I am happy to say I've had them at least 10 times in the past year!" Steve says. Other plusses include the wine list and a terrific staff, all of which is overseen by Michael and Eric.

The Provision Company in Southport, North Carolina is one of Steve's all-time favorites. With a dining room right on the dock, The Provision Co. serves seafood literally right off the boat. Steve says the specials are consistently wonderful, but his favorite dish is the crab cakes with a half-pound of steamed shrimp. Add that to the open-air dining and the fact there's a big reach-in cooler where you can help yourself to a beer and the views of Bald Head island, the intercoastal waterway, the ocean. "It's something to see, I tell ya," says Steve - although we don't quite believe him and think maybe a road trip is in order! Steve, have gas in the car? Shotgun!
