Charles learned the beauty business at a young age.

"My father was a barber. I was the youngest of four boys, so automatically you go to work with whatever your father is doing," Charles says.

After high school, Charles left the barbershop and went to beauty school.

"The truth is I never stepped foot in a beauty salon the whole time I was in school, " says Charles.

Following school, Charles joined the Marine Corp for eight years. For the past 35 years he has been working full time in the Spa industry.

As a kid Charles started out learning the basics, a straight razor and strop. These days his salons offer much more than a clean shave.  They have services ranging from microdermabrasion hand treatments to custom eyelashes.

Charles says, "Your hands can give your age away." Instead of getting a nip-tuck, a great spa treatment can do the trick!

Salon Vivaces can be found on the East and West coasts as well as Toronto, Canada. Charles credits its' success and ability to grow to their unbelievable guest service.

"We identify who we want to target as a guest and we know how to satisfy that guest and service that guest."

"It's more than just the service itself. It's the experience of coming into a Salon Vivace."

Charles is specifically proud of Salon Vivace's success in New Town.

"Our Williamsburg team is one of the best teams I have worked with in my forty year career," says Charles.

Sheila Robison
Shiela Robison, owner of Reach for Performance, chose fate to dictate her move from Michigan to Virginia.

"I put my finger on a map. I knew I wanted to be south of a certain latitude. Virginia was my first hit, " says Shiela.

For the past fifteen years, Shiela has been practicing physical therapy in Williamsburg. While in physical therapy school she experienced first hand the benefits of her chosen profession.

"I was on the corner of a passenger van that spun around and impacted a cement wall of an underpass. It took my left shoulder and put it around the front of me to where my right shoulder was and tore some of the muscle attachments."

With no health insurance, Shiela depended on her classmates to rehabilitate her with daily sessions. After twelve months of hard work, she regained function in her left shoulder; now her favorite area to work on clients.

Shiela's life altering experience made her extremely committed to helping others. Six years ago she opened Reach for Performance offering a full scope of services including personal training and massage.

With the help of local golf professional, Bob Mueller, Shiela launched "Reach for Performance Golf." The program aids golfers in overcoming physical challenges and tweaking their golf game using a Dyna Disc balance cushion.

"Balance is a huge part of an accurate golf game. If you can have a decent swing on an uneven surface, then when you get to be on an even surface; your body is much more accurate," says Shiela.

Unlike the other services, a patient needing physical therapy must have a doctor's prescription. Shiela recommends that the patient first consult with Reach for Performance. She explains why having a good fit that matches your personality is important in choosing the right physical therapist.

"Physical therapy ends up being an investment of time, money, resources that you have to juggle around and it's usually for an extended period time."
